After exploring the Freegan community of Madrid I was interested to learn about the movement in a different cultural context. During my exchange at the Design Academy of Eindhoven, I researched the food system of the Netherlands particularly around the issue of food waste.
The freegan community of the Netherlands is not much of a community anymore. On an industrial level food waste is taken care of, but household food waste represents the majority of the wasted food in the country. The result was an intervention on the food system at an individual level, to create personal responsibility for the food we consume and the food we waste. Alongside the system, there is a website with instructions on how users can implement freegan strategies in their personal lives.
